Discovery is a series of studies exploring the Christian faith. Discovery has been written with two groups of people in mind: 1) those considering the Christian faith and want to know more about it, and 2) people who have recently become Christians and want to begin building their knowledge about their newfound faith. Each short chapter examines various topics, such as relationships and "Who is God?", Who is Jesus?, The Significance of the Crucifixion and Resurrection, and many others that explain the more common aspects of Christianity. The accomplished Psalmist, David, wrote, Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your Name in all the earth. You have set Your glory in the heavens … When I consider the work of Your fingers, the moon, the stars, which You have set in place, what is mankind that You are mindful of them, human beings that You care for them? (Psalm 8:1 & 3 – 4). Indeed, when we look up at a star-filled sky, we cannot help but be filled with awe and wonder at what we see.
However, I believe all this didn’t happen by chance, but was the work of an infinite, loving and caring God. This book begins by looking at how circumstances might have been before anything else was in existence. It then goes on to explore some of the imaginary planning scenarios that ensued once the decision had been made to create not only the world but also human beings and the interaction God would have with us and we with Him. It culminates with the greatest wedding there ever has been and ever will be. God’s sovereign plan is truly awe-inspiring!
The Church is God’s design. He, in turn, has given it to His Son, Jesus, to be His promised bride, which will culminate in the grandest wedding ever seen.
As you read each chapter, you will sense the enormity and excitement there is with the potential of the Church and all that Jesus wants it to be. As the bridegroom nears His wedding day and anticipation builds of a life together with His bride, so Jesus, the bridegroom, looks ahead to the glorious consummation of His Bride, the Church.
The church has a glorious future ahead of it, even after two thousand+ years, and we are possibly in the final straight of the race, straining ahead towards the finishing post!
